As a reward to myself, and extra motivation, I purchased these sweet sneakers to keep my weight loss and fitness going.
Reebok Realflex’s are like running on clouds. I love them.
Sunday, April 29 was my first day on the treadmill and it went well. I started a run/walk program where I ran for a minute and then walked for two minutes, all for a total of 34 minutes. I’m definitely surprised at how it seems like I don’t burn as many calories (according to the count) but I did enjoy that I ran/walked for 2.57 miles …
still a ways to go for my 5k goal, but it’s a start.
Quick video of me sampling my first juiced drink … not the greatest concoction but live and learn!

In my quest to a slimmer me and a healthier lifestyle, I have taken up juicing as an add on to my daily cardio at the Natatorium. (insert Jersey Shore steroid joke here) .. Turned onto this idea by a health-nut friend and a convincing documentary, I purchased the above Black & Decker Juicer ($38.99 on Amazon) as a starter. Other high-end juicers can go as high as $199 in price, so for $40 it seemed pretty reasonable to give this concept a shot.
Ready with vegetables and fruit, this puppy arrived Tuesday night and I got things started with a poorly planned, unique tasting concoction of the following:
3 carrots
2 apples
10 baby spinach leaves
10 blueberries
1 handful mushrooms
This was not the best idea in the world and excitement definitely got the best of me. Yuck! I sucked it up though and gulped it down.
This morning, my second juicing attempt went much better. After returning from my morning cardio I decided to forgo my normal whey & almond milk shake for a glass of juice. This morning’s recipe was:
1 apple
2 carrots
1 handful of broccoli
This tasted very good and mostly like apple juice but with a hint of carrots. It also did the trick in keeping me feeling full from about 830 to 12 when it was time for lunch.
The final juicing attempt of the day today came in a much smaller portion and more as an add-on to dinner. Dinner tonight happened to be swordfish steak and a pice of watermelon … very good by the way, from Whole Foods. With my piece of swordfish steak I concocted a juice drink with the following:
1 cucumber
1 lemon
1 orange pepper
Word of warning, when using lemons or anything sour, only use half of what you think you need. This was way way sour and almost un-drinkable. It was semi-painful and disgusting trying to gulp this down. I will be trying this recipe again but with just half a lemon, which I’m sure will taste much better.
24 hours in on having a juicer and i’m excited to make one for breakfast tomorrow!
Very interesting piece. I’ve become a book worm of sorts out here in Ohio but have mostly stuck to non-fiction books about PR/Marketing and some biography type reads. I’ll have to mix in some fiction to switch things up.
April 5 - This morning’s post-workout juicing was perfect.
1 cucumber
1 apple
15 blueberries
1 organic mint tea bag (in cup, not juiced)
This one had a very refreshing taste to it. The mint was a nice add-in and the drink had a good fruit taste with a hint of cucumber.
Quick video I made to show my new juicer in action to my sister. And yes, it flys through veggies but I discovered a secret in that the larger the fruits and veggies and also the more solid they are, the more juice they produce .. so no worries $0.61 carrots from Whole Foods!
Meet Short Stack, the newest edition to the legacy that is Chicago Bandits monkeys. Short Stack arrived via Jack Mertes (current Bandit) in a package a few days ago. Quite the surprise he was, Short Stack stands at 3 feet tall and as you can tell from the photo, he is ready to pounce on unsuspecting interns.
Pancakes, Waffles and now Short Stack … the inflatable monkey tradition continues!
a funny “Sh*t ____ People Say” about PR people … i am guilty of a few of these but I think agency people do these more often.
